We got to the cruise terminal at around 11:30 am. We were earlier than the suggested time of noon, but so was everybody else. The lines were snaking through the rope maze but kept moving. That was for security as we'd already dropped off our two big bags. Of course, then there was another queue for US Customs. Our first four ports will be in the States or uS territory, so customs is set up inside the Canadian terminal. Lastly, we had a wait to actually check-in with Holland America.
The MS Noordam is a sister ship of the MS Westerdam from which we so recently disembarked. The onboard ship layout is identical but the decor is a bit more dated as our former ship was renovated and updated in April. The similarities make getting around a little easier. This time our cabin is on deck six toward the aft. So, we still must learn new ways of getting around.
I'd joked with Tim about coming to wave us off, as we so often see in the movies. We communicated through texts and he, indeed, came down on his bicycle. Passengers can get close to ships in Vancouver, so the exercise wasn't entirely futile. A bit later, as we slipped out beneath the Lion's Gate Bridge, I knew we were on a new adventure.
PS. We're again surrounded by vast amounts of amazing food. Our late dining option will be at 7:45 on the Noordam and we met several old Australian fellows and a Virginian couple who seem like a real hoot.
